Saigon kept the rooms where the correspondents drank and the roof where the briefings lied, and then renamed the ground under all of it. On 1 July 2025 the city merged its wards, so the districts these addresses were written in no longer exist and every listing still printing Ben Nghe is more than a year stale. Four stops, because the fifth could not prove it was open.
Pierre Cazaux began building in 1878 and the doors opened in 1880, which makes this the oldest hotel in the city, and Saigontourist has run it since 1986. Le Jardin is not the famous street terrace Graham Greene's characters drank on. That is long gone, and nobody can tell us when it went. This is the walled courtyard behind it, under plumeria trees, and the house sells the room on one thing, which is a cocktail taken slowly in a garden laid out to look European. It is the quietest room on this road and nothing after it will be quiet. Worth knowing while you sit in it: the building carries no heritage ranking at all, and the paperwork to protect it has still not been filed.

2 · The Detour M Bar
The Majestic opened in 1925 on the corner where Dong Khoi meets the river. The bar is on the eighth floor of the newer wing, so the view is 1925 and the room is not, which is a fair trade at that height. The house cocktail is called The Majestic 1925 and it is bourbon infused with orange and cinnamon, with Campari, sweet vermouth, orange bitters and a twist, and it is the one thing up here you cannot get anywhere else in the city. Doors at three in the afternoon, band at eight. Take the rail, watch the barges work the current, and let the light go.

3 · The Wildcard Apocalypse Now
The Thi Sach block has been Saigon's late room for decades and this is the door with the helicopter fan turning over the floor. It fills after midnight with crews, language students, salarymen out of the Japanese bars one street over, and everyone who has run out of better ideas. Order whatever is coldest and stop at two, which is the hour the room stops being funny. Look for the sign rather than the number, because the address has been written three different ways over the years and the founding year comes out as either 1991 or 2003 depending on who is telling it. Nothing good has ever happened here late, which is precisely why it is on the list.

4 · The Last Call Rooftop Garden Bar
The Rex began in 1927 as a two storey Citroen garage on what was then Boulevard Charner, became a cinema, and only turned into a hotel at the end of the fifties. Its roof garden is where the correspondents and the American officers drank their way through the sixties, and the house still trades on the name the reporters gave those briefings, the Five O'Clock Follies, though the accounts disagree about whether the briefings themselves happened up here or in the auditorium downstairs. The crown turns above the garden and the walking street runs away below. A cocktail at sunset is the only correct way to spend the last hour of a Saigon evening, so come up before the light goes rather than after it.

🎁 The one we pulled, and why. Nha hang Ngon at 160 Pasteur put every street stall of the south into one French villa, with the kitchens pushed out to the edges so each counter cooked one thing all day. We cannot show that it is trading. Its own domain answers with a maintenance page, the booking platform has delisted it, the menu reads as awaiting update and the listing says not yet open, and every aggregator still has it in a ward that was abolished in July 2025. None of that proves it is shut. It does mean we will not send you across town on it. Ring 028 3827 7131 first, and if it answers, go.
