Kingston's evening runs uphill: a stock exchange listed sports bar, a fishing village the sea half swallowed, the little bar where the longest running dance in the city was born, and a Sunday sound on a hill with the lights below. Four stops, because the fifth could not prove it was open, and in this city the music is the verdict.

Usain Bolt's Tracks & Records
Seven Kingston entrepreneurs formed the KLE group in 2008, signed the fastest man alive, and opened this bar at Market Place in April 2011. It has been the city's default meeting point ever since: a Red Stripe and some jerk, screens on every wall, and a soundtrack that leans local. The jerk chicken spring rolls have their own following, and the oxtail gets argued about in the reviews like a batting order. The operating company answers to the stock exchange, which is a rare thing for a sports bar anywhere. Kingston starts its evening here and has done for fifteen years. Order the Red Stripe, take the jerk, and let the city assemble around you.

Gloria's Rendezvous, Port Royal
Gloria Harris-Prawl started with egg sandwiches for the Port Royal fishermen and by 1972 she had a room of her own on Queen Street. She died in 1999 and her children run it still; her daughter rebuilt the room in 2012, and the family now keeps three doors, a Top Spot along the road and a Seafood City in downtown Kingston. This one, the Rendezvous at 5 Queen Street, is the original and the one to sit in. Come for peppered shrimp and fried fish with bammy, and a Red Stripe out of the cooler while the sea knocks on the rocks behind you. The pirate town an earthquake dropped into the harbour in 1692 finally got its receipt when UNESCO inscribed seventeenth century Port Royal on the World Heritage List in July 2025. A proper detour, past the airport and along the Palisadoes, and worth every minute.

Capricorn Inn, Rae Town
Smack in the middle of Rae Street stands Capricorn Inn, the little bar where Norma Wright, Sister Norma to everyone, and her husband Brother Bunny started the Old Hits dance in 1982. Senor Daley's Klassique Disco set up outside on Sunday nights and played nothing newer than the records the dancers were young to, and it grew into the longest running session in Kingston. The dance has wandered, to Sabina Park for some years and through the curfew silence, but the community still keeps its Old Hits night and this door is where it was born. Take a cold Red Stripe at the counter and fry fish from the Dumpling Shop across the road. Sunday late is the time to come. Ask anyone in Rae Town where the music is; they have answered that question for more than forty years.

Kingston Dub Club
Up Skyline Drive on Jacks Hill, Gabre Selassie, born Carlisle Lee in 1969, plays roots and dub through his Rockers Sound Station with the whole city glittering below. The lineage is real: Rockers was Augustus Pablo's imprint, and Pablo's son Addis is a regular up here with his melodica. Lee Scratch Perry played this yard in February 2015, and the Sunday session has outlasted every fashion since. Gates open at five on Sunday evening and entry is two thousand Jamaican dollars, cash, and the view over the lights alone would cover it. Take a drink from the deck bar, a rum or a fresh juice, and let the bass do the rest. The regulars advise against heels on Skyline Drive, and the regulars are right.

🎁 The one we pulled. Chris Gayle's Triple Century on Knutsford Boulevard is marked permanently closed, its last first-person review dates to the winter of 2020, and the directories still printing its hours are the stale-aggregator trap in action. Nothing has replaced it and the Universe Boss has announced no reopening. If an anchor returns to New Kingston we will hear it before the listings do.
