Goa's drinking law is seasonal by statute: the beach shacks come down every 31 May and rise again in the autumn, so half this road exists for half the year and the copy says which half. The state protected its own spirit before it protected much else, and feni's Geographical Indication is the first India ever granted a liquor.

Shiva Valley and Soul By The Sea are therefore SHUT from June to October, and Hilltop, though a permanent hillside, runs November to May and sleeps through the monsoon too. In August this road is two doors: Joseph Bar and Cafe Mambo, both open every day of the rain. Come in season for the other three, or take the wet months as Panjim and the Lane.

Joseph Bar
A one room corner bar on Gomes Pereira Road in Fontainhas, so small that the neighbourhood does its drinking standing in the street outside; the room itself seats barely ten. The walls carry Portuguese tile and the shelf carries the state's own spirit: order a Goan measure of cashew feni, the drink India protected with Geographical Indication number 120 in 2009, or urak in its short spring season, because by August the year's urak is gone. Hindi vloggers bill it as the oldest bar in Goa, and the claim of a century is folklore, but the room was pouring in the 1970s and was nearly lost in 2017 before a relaunch saved it. Susegado craft beer runs on tap for the feni shy. It pours from noon to eleven, every day, monsoon included. Start civilised; nothing else on this road will be.

Shiva Valley
The Tuesday institution at the south end of Anjuna beach, where psytrance runs on the sand from afternoon until well past sunrise and the chai mamas set up as the sky goes pale. Order a cold beer for the night, then chai from the mamas when the sun comes up, which is the correct order of operations. The tape goes deep: sets filmed on this floor have sat on YouTube since February 2011, and in February 2026 the HillTop festival's official after party landed here, so the institution is documented, not just remembered. It survived every crackdown by simply continuing. It is a licensed beach shack, so the law takes it down every 31 May and it rebuilds from late September. Come between November and May, on a Tuesday, and plan nothing for the Wednesday.

Cafe Mambo
Tito's Lane at its loudest, and Cafe Mambo is the strip's anchor, run by the house that has owned Baga's nightlife since 1971 by its own count. The procedure is to eat before the decks start: the kitchen runs seafood, Goan plates and pizza from six in the evening, and after that the room belongs to the bar and the dance floor. It trades every night of the year, six until three, monsoon included; a camera walked the lane on 5 August 2026 and found it open for business. The coast goes commercial and unapologetic here, and the correct response is to treat it as the anthropology it is. Nowhere else on this road will sell you a pizza at midnight, and there are nights when that is exactly the point.

Soul By The Sea
The Anjuna shack tradition, filed barefoot: plastic chairs in the sand at the quiet south end where the freaks first landed, a shelf of borrowed books, momos and sizzlers off the grill, and a signature cocktail or a cold beer while the sun drops behind the rocks. The shack appeared in the spring of 2024 under the name Soul By The Sea, and calm is its whole argument against the party next door. Every shack on this sand is licensed by the season, dismantled by 31 May and rebuilt from late September, and a room this young must be taken on those terms. Check the name is still on the sand when November comes; if it is not, whatever stands in its place will be pouring the same sunset. That churn is not a flaw, it is the tradition itself.

Hilltop
Coconut palms painted ultraviolet on the Vagator hillside, the sound system pointed at the trees, and the music this coast named played at proper scale. Order a cold beer and keep your hands free for the rest. The receipts are current: New Year rolled into 2026 here, the HillTop Festival held this ground from 5 to 8 February 2026 with Astrix and Ace Ventura on the bill, and a Tribe of Nova edition landed in May 2026 before the rain closed the season. The venue's own channel publishes full sets off this stage, which is more proof than most legends can show. It runs from November to May and sleeps through the monsoon, so time the road for the season and let the sunrise be part of the set.
