Ma Cameron'sThe snug and the whisky bar are the old building. Much of the rest is not: in 1980 the city's archaeologists stood in the trench dug for an extension and recorded a medieval pit sealed under garden earth, with Yorkshire pottery in it from the thirteenth or fourteenth century. So you can drink in an eighteenth century room and, forty feet away, in one younger than punk. The Camerons sold up in 1933. Amelia, the Ma on the sign, was running it by 1937. Three cask beers, seven handpumps between the rooms. - 2 · The Detour
Under the HammerA cellar at 9 to 11 North Silver Street, which is also the address of John Milne, auctioneers on this street since 1867. That is where the name came from and nobody invented it afterwards. Colin Watson opened the bar in 1983 and ran it on his own until 2020, then announced it would not reopen. It stayed dark about twenty months and came back on 5 November 2021 under new owners. Timothy Taylor's Landlord is the regular and the guests come from Cromarty and Fyne. - 3 · The Anchor
The GrillJohn Innes put the sign up in 1925, the same year he had Jenkins and Marr remodel the room. No ladies. The interior is listed along with the building, the vaulted plasterwork, the mahogany gantry, the brass match strikers. On 19 April 1973 the Scottish TUC met in the Music Hall across the road and Jacquie Blair, twenty two, the only woman shop steward at a Greenock mill, stood up and said they were debating equal pay opposite a bar that would not serve her. Women were served from December 1975. The toilet came in 1998. Around three hundred Scottish malts behind the bar, five changing casks in front of it, and no kitchen at all. - 4 · The Wildcard
DrummondsCafe Drummond to anyone over forty, and bands have played here since at least March 1993. Shed Seven, June 1994. It took the name Drummonds around 2022. The building is listed, early nineteenth century on Belmont Street, dropping five storeys to Denburn Road at the back and possibly Archibald Simpson's work. Two rooms, about three hundred upstairs and eighty in D2 below. It is not an ale house and does not pretend to be, so drink keg lager and watch the band. Nothing opens before eight at the start of the week. - 5 · The Last Call
OGV TaproomA self pour beer wall in the old Garage on Windmill Brae, with the four hundred and fifty capacity Podium through the wall. It is not a brewery: the beer is own label and brewed for them by other Aberdeenshire hands. Finn Moray is named here permanently and nobody paid for that, because nobody could. It is building a living musical map of Scotland and putting half the net profits back into Scottish causes, and on 1 August 2026 it brought The Algiers and The Dead Shadows into the Podium for the AFC Community Trust and the Paul Lawrie Foundation. Tickets were £19.83, which is not a rounding error to anyone who remembers Gothenburg.
🎁 One thing to know before you walk it. The building the OGV trades in went to auction on 6 August 2026, with its lease running to December 2028 and the rent paid up, so the tenancy should hold, but the ground under it changed hands. The taproom publishes no opening hours anywhere and the listing sites carry almost nothing, which means the gigs reach people through Finn Moray and the venue's own channels rather than through a ticket aggregator. Ring ahead rather than turning up on spec. Everything else on this road keeps ordinary pub hours, except Under the Hammer, which is shut Sundays and Mondays.
